Reflection

3. When he gets on the train, he cannot find an empty seat. How is this problem solved for him? How might this be a cultural solution?
Todd, as a person who came from an individualist culture he was surprised by the little kid's action when he sat on Todd's lap, such behavior is normal in India because of its high population, people don’t get surprised by it.

4. As any exchange student, he has a lot of experiences trying new food. His first encounter is with an iced drink. What happens?
He got stomach ache due to contaminated water that was used in the iced drink.

7. Todd wants to check in to a hotel. But Puro insists he comes to a boarding house. What is the reason he gives Todd?
Puro was concerned about Todd who will have to stay in the hotel alone. People in India aren't used to such ideas of being alone, they love the family and appreciate being in groups. Puro said "That place is very lonely" which is a collectivist manner.
He insisted to take him to Auntie Ji so he feels like home.
8. As soon as they meet, Aunti Ji starts asking very intimate questions that Americans who have just met would never ask. What kind of things does she ask?
What does your father do, are you married, what’s your salary, do you have a girlfriend? Why did you break up?

Cultures around the World Make Decisions

Cultures around the World Make Decisions
Exercise #4
The American culture is obsessed with individualism, which makes their economy so hard to operate using a structured format of living, their culture is dominated by the personal anatomy, and they want to be able to choose everything individually. Moreover, the communication between people is mostly formal, with a big distance between families and individuals.
In the Arab culture, collectiveness is essential in everyone's life. Strong relationships are what tie the individuals together; the decision making process is influenced by family members, especially the major life decisions, like carrier path and marriage.

Mrs Donnelly couldn't fit in the new environment due to the cultural differences. She was going to find her way back to her country; however, the hotel manager stopped and calmed her down. As we can see her, the hotel manger was able to create a good relationship with the customers especially the foreigners who could possibly be suffering from a cultural shock.
Moreover, due to Mr Graham past relationships with people from all over the world, he was able to adapt in India comfortably. As for Ainsle's, she couldn't adapt to the Indian culture because it was all new to her so she preferred to find a hotel that had a touch of India in it to get used to the new environment.

Dress Code in Work Place

Dress Code in Work Place
Exercise 2
The cultural conflict occurs because of the foreigner's ignoring the dress code in a Muslim country such as the United Arab of Emirates. Most of the foreign people in the organisations wear clothes that are religiously and culturally unacceptable in the Arab nations. It involves the locals and the foreigners, both men and women in the local set up condemn the shameful dress code that is completely inappropriate.
Although the dress code rules are clear in public places in the United Arab of Emirates, yet it's ignored by both men and women. The basic cause of the problem can be ignorance to the stipulated rules. However, it is unfortunate to note that all people do not agree to a particular worldview collectively. Therefore, by setting the acceptable dress code in the country, it is important to consult the involved parties.
Honour/shame (H/S): The local community despises the people who imitate the foreigner’s dress code. According to the locals, these people are drawing shame to themselves and also to the community. The locals believe that their dress code is honourable and right. Therefore, neither the foreigner nor a local resident should be allowed to wear in a shameful manner.
In my opinion, the most prevalent worldview is G/I. Many people know the knowledge between right and wrong. However, what's acceptable in a place may not be acceptable in another.

bullfighting

Bullfighting
Exercise 1
Bullfighting is a tradition that existed for decades; however, it needs to be banned. I'm pretty sure that everyone hears from time to time about the accidents that occur in these fights, it is indeed a very barbaric tradition yet it continues to flourish in Spain and other countries. It can be seen from above analysis that, it's basically people paying money to take pleasure in watching a matador who boldly risks his precious life to tackle a ferocious bull, the poor creature that's fighting to survive the lances that pierces through its body, it's a sickening scene.

How such traditions can still exists? That's the question that needs to be answered. We would expect that people in the 21th century are fully aware of the animal rights, yet nothing seems to be done to stop this madness. The least thing that can be done is use this tradition to teach the new generation that not all customs should be adapted as some of them can be completely uncivilized and cruel.
